About Kimberly

Welcome to my site! I'm Kimberly Shepherd and I’m an Independent Educational Consultant (IEC), private college guidance coach and career counselor. Who else am I?

I'm a transformer. (Not those complicated half robot/half vehicle beings from the comic series – though doesn’t the name "Optimus Prime" rock?)

I support individuals with career and higher education planning in answering "what do I want to do when I grow up?" or "what's the best college for me?" or "how do I pursue graduate or professional school?"

My practice is built on a twenty-five year tenure in higher education that began when I was still in college myself, continued through recruiting students for two Cleveland, Ohio-area schools and extended to working as a consultant in dozens of college admission offices around the United States.

I also have a background in social work, and am able to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as well as other aptitude and personality tools to aid clients in the career discovery process.

With a knowledge base of hundreds of colleges and universities, I am passionate about higher education - always seeking new schools to research, visit and match clients with.

Based in Cleveland, Ohio, I successfully work with clients from around the country and across the globe who are seeking to enter post-secondary education in the United States. I have a secondary base of clients in the southern Maryland, Washington D.C. and northern Virginia region.  My non-local clients work with me via phone, Google+ Hangout or Skype for appointments.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English and Anthropology from Case Western Reserve University and a Master of Business Administration from Ursuline College. I studied Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington. I’ve also completed the IECA Summer Training Institute for Educational Consultants.

My professional affiliations include being an associate member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), a member of The Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling (OACAC) and a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).  In addition, I serve as a Chapter Leader for the Cleveland Chapter of the Case Western Reserve University Alumni Association. I’m also an active member and Mentor for the Elite Professionals Chapter of BNI International.
